Amanda Cadabra and The Nightstairs
Book Eight of the Hilarious Fantasy Mystery Series
Four strangers, one missing dog and a body. But Sunken Madley is just a quaint, peaceful English village. What does the 1000-year-old ruined priory have to do with it? The answer, as it so often does, lies in the past.
Detective Inspector Trelawney is fast exhausting the normal options. Only covert witch Amanda, with her grumpy feline familiar, has the means to step back 500 years, infiltrate the monastery and discover the truth before the killer strikes again.

Amanda Cadabra and The Nightstairs
I knew where. From the first map, from a simple sketch made back at the inception of the first book, it was there. I didn’t know then, but the path was being paved to this most ancient part of the village. And I also when. And when. For each story, one way or another, draws Amanda back to the past.
The seed was watered when rewatching a favourite, almost 90-year-old film, You Can’t Take It Wth You. I heard a line spoken by the mother in the adorably chaotic family who unexpectedly received a typewriter and so decided to become an author. She is having a block about what next to do with her main character, Cynthia. Any more than that would be a spoiler …
The priory. Centuries ago. A place for men and possibly boys. But a female? And a witch to boot? It was also a place of seclusion, a place of power, of one kind or another. In a time of turmoil, what secrets were guarded? What was worth dying for? What was worth killing for? Who still roams the stones in the present day? And what did they see in that fateful moment?
It was all coming together. The final question is always … what form will justice take for the murderer? The long arm of the law, or the reach of the Reaper's scythe? And above all, what does Tempest, Amanda’s irascible feline familiar, observe about the entertaining shenanigans of an inferior species? Is it enough to keep him awake?
An absorbing entry in the series for lovers of humorous fantasy mystery, where Harry Potter meets Agatha Christie, in a 'timelessly British' supernatural whodunnit. A magical murderous, mirthful mix of vintage and modern-day fun, suspense and excitement, with a happy ending.
Dive in to join the delightful Amanda, the superior Tempest, the attractive but by-the-book Inspector Trelawney, the late great aristocratic Senara and the warm-hearted Cornishman Perran, and an assemblage of suitably suspicious and villainous characters. All to keep you guessing as you are welcomed to the appaently perfectly ordinary, old Engllish village of Sunken Madley..
