Oo, Shiny Thing
Yes, indeed, the lure of merchandise. The opportunity presented itself to explore this brave new world, involving a steep learning curve and expenditure of time and energy. Finally emerging with a useful metaphorical folder of lessons learned, I learned that my closest friend, Ann, was embarking on treatment for a condition far more serious than my own.
The Spark
With the Atlantic Ocean between us, the one thing I could think of doing for her was to follow her advice, which was to write a short story just for myself, just for fun, to help me with my own health situation. But I had an even better idea: to write it as a diversion and entertainment for Ann.
With that heartfelt suggestion, Ann lit more than just the spark of a new story. No sooner had I finished and delivered one for her delight, than the next one was tumbling out and then a third, which alas, Ann did not survive to read on, as Granny would say ‘this plane of existence’.
Suddenly, however, I had a full-length book on my hands. A spin-off prequel to the Amanda Cadabra series, with the potential to become a series in its own right, and of course, dedicated to my dear friend, Ann.
The Hot Iron
A promotion and a new book in the offing, Amanda Cadabra’s star was in the ascendant and I knew the moment had come to strike while the iron was hot and apply for the El Dorado of promo opportunities, a BookBub Featured Deal. It was granted, and the creation of the campaign around it embarked upon.
The Secret Plan and The Gushing River
Fired by the rewards likely to be forthcoming from this, I embarked upon a Secret Plan, which will at some point be revealed. It was as this in train that Amanda Cadabra Book 9 began to revive. Already at 20,000, it swiftly built 50,000, 70,000, 90,000, the plot, scenes, dialogue shaping themselves through four editing passes to become the book that will pass into your hands.
And that, dear readers, is why it has taken three years. The good news is that it is looking like book 10 will have a very different story in terms of the interval before I can bring it to you. That is all I can say at this moment.

So, let’s begin with the launch date! Sunday 3rd May, and from today, 22nd April, the book will go on pre-order on Amazon, Kobo, Apple, Google and Barnes and Noble. On 3rd May one of the other books will be free to download for 72 hours. More news on that to come …
